Write Your Own Scriptures

A simple but powerful thought came to me one day:

What if we wrote our own scriptures?

Not scriptures for the world.
Not something to preach or enforce.
Just something for ourselves.

Because the truth is, we’ve spent thousands of years reading words written by other people—men who claimed divine inspiration, insight, or authority. And while many of those words are beautiful, wise, and meaningful…

They are still someone else’s words.

What if, instead of only looking outward, we also turned inward?

You Are Allowed to Define What Guides You

You don’t have to bind yourself to any book.
You don’t have to live by rules that never truly resonated with your heart.
You don’t have to force belief just because something has been labeled “sacred.”

You are allowed to decide what speaks to your soul.

And maybe—just maybe—what speaks to your soul is just as sacred as anything ever written before.

Your Life, Your Scriptures

Imagine this:

A personal book.
A collection of thoughts, truths, reminders, and principles that guide your life.

Not complicated.
Not overwhelming.
Just clear, honest, and meaningful.

Your scriptures could be things like:

  • “Choose love, even when it’s hard.”
  • “Slow down. Life is not a race.”
  • “Speak truth, but with kindness.”
  • “Take care of your body—it carries your spirit.”
  • “Forgive, not because they deserve it, but because you deserve peace.”

These are not commandments.

They are anchors.

You Don’t Have to Be Original

There’s no rule that says everything has to come from you.

You can borrow.

From ancient texts.
From philosophers.
From a conversation that stuck with you.
From a random thought that hit you at the right moment.

Truth is truth—no matter where it comes from.

What matters is that it becomes yours.

That you choose it.
That you believe it.
That you live it.

Make It Sacred (But Not Heavy)

If you’re going to do this, take it seriously—but not rigidly.

This isn’t about pressure.
This isn’t about perfection.

It’s about intention.

Keep your scriptures meaningful.
Refine them over time.
Let them evolve as you grow.

A little humor is fine—life needs that.
But don’t let it become noise.

This is something you come back to.
Something that centers you.
Something that reminds you who you are.

A Living Book

The most beautiful part?

Your scriptures are not fixed.

They grow with you.
They change as you change.
They deepen as you experience more of life.

You might write something today that feels true…
And rewrite it a year from now with greater clarity.

That’s not failure.

That’s growth.

Final Thought

Maybe the goal was never to follow someone else’s path perfectly.

Maybe the goal was to become aware enough, honest enough, and intentional enough…
to write your own.

Not for the world.

Just for you.
